The core functions of the Executive Mayor and MAYCO include:
• Political & Strategic Leadership: Providing the overarching vision for the municipality and overseeing the performance of the local government administration.
• Budgeting & Financial Management: Managing compliance with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA). This includes identifying community needs, reviewing budget priorities, and submitting the annual budget and financial adjustments to the council.
• Integrated Development Planning (IDP): Designing and annually reviewing the district's Integrated Development Plan (IDP) to ensure the effective implementation of budgeted infrastructure and community projects.
• Community Participation: Engaging with the public, receiving petitions, and ensuring that community organizations and residents are involved in municipal affairs.
• Intergovernmental Relations (IGR): Collaborating with national, provincial, and neighboring local municipalities to align development goals and ensure sustainable service delivery.
• Oversight: Receiving reports from various council committees, monitoring the Auditor-General's findings, and ensuring the municipality is effectively implementing its bylaws.
